Hypothetical example: A move increases rent by $350 a month but reduces transport by $180 and frees five hours of travel each week.
The recurring financial change is $170 more money out each month. Build a duplicate scenario with the new rent, transport and any changed utilities, parking or childcare.
Keep one-off costs separate
Moving fees, deposits and furniture are not recurring monthly costs. Estimate them separately and ask whether savings can cover them without creating another problem.
The scenario shows the ongoing cost. It cannot value the five hours for you. Put that benefit beside the $170 difference when you decide.
