Separate the decision from the numbers

The numbers are evidence for a decision. They are not the decision itself.

First name the choice in plain language. Then ask what the calculator can help with: affordability, a monthly gap, debt timing or the effect of a changed assumption.

Keep a second list

Write down what the scenario cannot measure, such as time, health, safety, meaning, relationships, flexibility or regret.

A financially stronger option is not automatically the right option. A personally important option is not automatically affordable. Good decisions let both truths stay in the room long enough to find the real trade-off.
